Eagle County's privately owned land is basically a 50-mile long stretch along I-70, maybe 1/2 mile to 5 miles wide, almost everything else is pristine federal lands: BLM land, national forests and wilderness areas. Cross Country Skiing

  • Vail Golf Course - Nordic Center, equipment rental and x-country skiing on the golf course

  • Camp Hale - at the spot where the 10th Mountain Division trained for World War II; near Tennessee Pass.

Back Country Skiing

  • For first timers and for people not familiar with the back country routes and snow conditions, this should be done with a guide and perhaps some telemark training at the ski area. But, when you are ready, the adventure will produce memories to last a lifetime.

Helicopter Skiing

Adventure Ridge

  • Vail Mountain - This is an eating and entertainment facility at the top of the Vail Mountain. Great for all ages, but kids from 10-20 especially love it. A great way for teens to meet other teens. You can eat pizza, ice skate, snowboard, play hockey, slide down the hill on innertubes or play video games. Tell the kids to take the gondola to the top of the mountain and check it out; you and your sweety go to Vendetta's for some pasta and a bottle of wine.

Hut Trips

  • 10th Mountain Division offers hut trips into the wildreness for a memorable overnight experience. You can rent an entire hut that will sleep as many as 16 or just book space in one of these huts that you will share with people who have the same outdoor interests that you do.
